It’s hard to believe how incredibly fast summer seems to fly by compared to the long cold winter! Reality of passing July 4th always makes us wonder how half the summer is gone. As soon as we see August, we realize it will only be a few weeks until … “school starts”!!!
This August, David’s Music House is going to both celebrate and appreciate summer with more great music and a bit of time off.
The month, we are only going to have 2 Saturday Open Mic Nights, Aug 13 and 27, primarily due to Anita and I taking a couple weekends to enjoy the summer before it is gone.
We do have 3 concert events in August.
August 12 is Jordan Umbach. Jordan is a 21 year-old with a large repertoire of original music in the style of acoustic folk/rock. His debut CD, “Silhouette of Steel” was named a “Notable Release of 2010” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and was also well-reviewed by several other newspapers, including the Pittsburgh City Paper and the Beaver County Times, noting his “smart songwriting, poetic lyrics, and witty and melodic sound.” He plays widely in the Pittsburgh region and Johnstown. Our favorite local twins and amazing singer/songwriting duo, The Hobbs Sisters, will bring more of their music as they open for Jordan. We just had to get Hannah & Lauren Hobbs back to perform before the summer ends and they go back to college.
August 19 will be a new area band, Roundhand Rowan, a Pittsburgh-native band. Even though the band started in 2006, the current version of the band was born in August 2009. Their live show is very positive, energetic and engaging, drawing crowds as soon as the first notes are played. Roundhand Rowan focuses on spreading love and positivity to those they entertain. After their first independent tour they make a final stop at David’s Music House, where they are currently working on a full-length album, to do a stripped down set to display the melodic nature of their music.
Opening for our headliner will be a new local band names Rare Breed. They have performed at a few of our open mic nights and have quite a fan following. They will be introducing some of their originals tonight.
August 26 will be a benefit concert hosted by our good friend, Brad Bendis. More details on that coming soon.
Keep checking our website Event Calendar for all the latest updates on concert and open mic information.
DMH continues our effort to raise funds and awareness of the Alzheimer’s Association. www.alz.org is the leading organization for information and awareness of this “Silent Epidemic” that the majority of the country does realize the impact and devastation this disease is causing to both the health and economy of our country. The Alzheimer’s Association is making great strides over the recent couple of years as more and more celebrities help bring attention to how huge this epidemic is and will continue to grow. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the leading causes of death and due to the size of the Baby Boomer Generation and that is no cure for this disease.
Help the DMH family raise funds by making a donation to our Alzheimer’s Association Walk Team by going to our Team page and making a donation of any amount you can. Also, a very tasty way to help is by purchasing our DMH Logo Cookies, a DMH favorite, as proceeds from sales goes toward our contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association. We will be having more activites the rest of the year as well, including our DMH Team Walk on September 24, 2011 and our First Year Anniversary in October.
